Pérola

$7.00

Pérola means pearl in Portuguese. This cardigan is a homage to Pearl Chin, the founder of Knitty City yarn store at
Manhattan Upper West Side. Pearl was one of the most supportive people that I have met, and she was the first
person to encourage me to pursue a career as a knitwear designer. Even living miles away, I always feel welcome at
Knitty City and I can assure that her dream to create a community is fulfilled! I miss her dearly and she is a beacon
of inspiration, perseverance and strength for me every single day! So, this one is for you, Dear Pearl! I love you!

Pérola is a modular cardigan with an all-over Crossed Stitch motif that resembles open cables! Pérola starts by
knitting separated fronts from the bottom up. After shaping shoulders, we still knit the front bands for a while,
enough for picking up 8 stitches from the edge of each one of them, after seaming the top of the bands together
with the 3 Needles Bind Off Method. From that, the back is worked from the top down, until the hem. It is
recommended to block the cardigan before seaming the sides. The sleeves are worked in the round, also from the
top down, picking up stitches from the sleeve edges. It is a fun construction with a very texturized fabric. Pérola is
one of the patterns from the Sparkly Eyes and Warm Heart Collection, a collaboration with HandDyed Yarns by
Charlotte Spagner! I hope you have fun knitting and wearing your Pérola cardigan!

Notes
The open front cardigan starts by working both fronts separately from the bottom up, starting with the ribbing, in
one piece, back and forth, until underarms.
The shoulder shaping indicates the Wrap & Turn Method, but you can use your favorite short row method!
After shoulder shaping, work the front band a little longer as indicated.
After shaping the back-neck, place both fronts with right side facing each other and, on the wrong side, seam the
top of the front bands using the 3 Needle Bind Off Method. Turning the seamed pieces to the right side, and
folding the shoulder shaping in half, the back stays in position to start working from the top down, in one piece,
back and forth until hem.
Wet or steam block the cardigan before seaming the sides and underarm.
The sleeves are worked circular from the top down.
