TNNA Summer 2019

Take it “Ease”: Understanding the Concept for Handknitted Garments

Introduction:

  • What is “ease”? (practical examples using body measurements)

  • When, where and why we add “ease” to knit garments (such as pullovers, sweaters, coats, and tops

Development and practice:

  • Styles (fitted, regular, “boxy,” oversized styles) and how much ease they have (average)

  • Checking the pattern fitting and “ease” – for designers and for retailers: how to help customers to choose their sizes on a pattern. Practical exercises with different designs.

Creative thinking and thoughtful process:

  • “Ease” variations to fit a stitch motif

  • Yarn weight, fiber, style and the final weight of a garment in a perspective of having a commercial/viable/successful pattern
